How to Install CyanogenMod 7 Custom Rom on Xperia X8 / W8

So after we got our Xperia X8 / W8 rooted, now it is time to say goodbye to the official Android 2.1 rom, we are going to install some nice custom roms.
Before you start, battery level should above 60%, you should understand this installation could make your phone out of work if you don’t do it right, and all of your personal data, applications, sms, contacts, settings will be lost after you make a Full Wipe (Factory Reset), if you want to keep your data, use any backup applications to save your important stuff first.
1. Download custom rom
As all the custom roms for Xperia X8 / W8 are based on CyanogenMod 7 (latest Android 2.3.7), the install method is the same, but there are some different features between these custom rom, so you need to find out the one you like the most. I have try GingerDXkuyaDROID and GingerCruzt, it is hard to say which one is the best, but I like the Gingerbread default style, and I’d like to keep the system lightly and clean, so Personally, I always choose the kuyaDROID, I have write some posts about it, the latest is here: kuyaDROID. PS: kuyaDROID for Xperia X8 is now updated to v4.3.233, you can see the screen shot of v4.3.233 in the original thread, if you like the orange style, you can download the kuyaDROID v4.3.233 here, but I recommend you the v3.2.209, it is more stable, you can download the last kuyaDROID v3.2.209 here and here, it is default style look, and better than the v3.2.175.
Another reason I choose kuyaDROID is that it support updating via xRecovery, I don’t like the CWM Recovery, it is complicated, and this installation guide is based on xRecovery.
2. Install xRecovery.
First thing you need to install is the xRecovery, a third party Recovery application, it can boot up the phone without enter main system, and manager the system data.
- How to install xRecovery on X8 / W8?
First, You need this software: FlashTool, Download it here.
Now create a new folder at the root of your driver C:, for example, “C:/flashtool/”, then extract the files to this new folder. Why driver C: ? because FlashTool require the JDK(Java Development Kit) to run in other file location, some said put FlashTool in driver C: can avoid this problem, but I am not sure about that, as I have already installed JDK. Now open the “X10FlashTool.exe” for a test, wait for a while, it takes a few minutes. If you can not get FlashTool to run, you can download the JDK6 here.
If you have succeed to run FlashTool, you should see this window:
All right, now connect your X8 / W8 to PC with the USB cable, no need to select any usb mode on your phone , then open the FlashTool, waiting for FlashTool communicate with the phone, you should see the successful message about E15i or E16i in the window.
a. If you have not root your phone, then click the “Root” button, your phone will automatic reboot one time, then it will be rooted, that is easy, and you should see a application named superuser in the app list, Don’t pull out the USB cable.
b. If you get your X8 / W8 rooted, now click the “Ask Root Perms” button in FlashTool, then pick up your phone, tap on the allow button. All right, now we can install the xRecovery, click the “xRecovery” button, FlashTool will transfer files to your phone, then a message “xRecovery successfully installed” will show up in FlashTool, you succeed.
c. You also need to install the JIT, click the “Optimize” button, your phone will automatic reboot one time.
PS: If you are using W8 E16i with stock firmware and the phone is rooted, and can’t run xRecovery, here is other method to install xRecovery:
install xRecovery W8 stock firmware only!! X8 users should follow step 2 above.
1. Download the xRecovery files in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=998063Don’t just follow the guide in that thread, it is missing a important step.
2. copy files (xrecovery.tar, chargemon, busybox, charger) to SD card. copy this files to “/system/bin/” with root explorer or File Expert.
3. !Important, Set All Those Four Files’ Permission to: rwxr-xr-x
long press on the file, select “permission” on the menu. set it like this:
V V V
V V
V V
Double check everything before you reboot the phone, because it may let your phone stuck on sony logo!
xRecovery should work after reboot.
I found this method by this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076987 it seems the default xRecovery in FlashTool is not working in stock W8(E16i) firmware.
3. Copy custom rom update file to SD card.
Copy the zip file you download at the step 1 to your SD card, make sure it is the one you want to install.
OK, everything is ready, you get 75% process complete. now disconnect the phone with your PC, power off your phone, press the power button, then repeatedly press the “back” key after the white “SONY” text show up. your phone will enter xRecovery, top line of the screen shows “FreeXperia X8 Recovery 001″ . Now be careful, don’t press the “home” key if you do not know what is going on.
4. Back up your current system.
Use the volume up and volume down key to move the highlight option, use Home key to select the option, use Back key to Return.
Now follow this to back up your current system to the SD card, “Back up and restore” -> “Back up”, this may take over 3 minutes, wait for the process to complete. Then press Back key to return to the main menu.
5. Wipe your X8 / W8 and install custom rom.
Now select the “Factory Reset (full wipe)” to clear user data, then enter “Instal custom zip”, enter “choose custom zip from sdcard”, volume key move your selection, find out the custom rom zip file, and press Home key, the installation process will start, wait for 3 minutes when it shows “install from sdcard complete”, press Back key to return to top menu, select “Reboot the phone”, now enjoy your brand new custom rom.
PS: If you fail to update your Xperia X8 / W8, you can simply enter xRecovery, select “Backup and Restore”, select “Restore”, restore the whole system you backup before.
[24/02/2012] update download link: if the downlink does not work for you, you can visit this page to convert the multiupload link to several network disk links, one of them should work. Copy the download link and submit it, see my screen shot

Protein power

Protein is the body's nutritional powerhouse, a critical need for both adults and children at every stage. But are we getting enough of this essential nutrient
The human body is the most complex, hi-tech machine in the world. In its simplest avatar, imagine it to be a giant furnace, which constantly needs to burn food as fuel in order to keep it in optimal working condition. While we are careful enough to load only the highest quality of fuel in our cars, we're often not as considerate to our own bodies. We tend to follow fad diets, skip meals, always eat on the run or munch on junk food that has little or no nutritional value. It isn't surprising then that a majority of us experience these undesirable changes—severe hair loss, brittle nails, lack of energy, wounds that take a longer time to heal, a sluggish metabolism that causes us to gain weight more easily, despite the fact that we haven't increased our food intake in any way. Often, we put down these changes to the natural aging process and until it becomes so severe that it disrupts our normal lives, we don't give it a second thought. If these problems have been plaguing you lately, you may be happy to learn that it can be easily reversed, provided you pay close attention to your diet. Are you getting enough protein?
How protein packs a punch
“Our bodies need three vital macronutrients to survive. These are carbohydrates, proteins and fats,” says Shweta Dewaan, chief dietician at Bensups Hospital, New Delhi, who also runs the Slimage Diet Clinic (www.slimage.in). We also need micronutrients like vitamins and minerals, but these are required in lesser amounts. Think of the micronutrients like make-up that you apply. They're what you need to look beautiful, but it's the macronutrients that are going to determine your health and that are absolutely vital. Ideally, for optimal health, your intake of carbohydrates, proteins and fats should be balanced. However, in reality, this seldom happens. In fact, 90% of what the average Indian eats consists solely of carbohydrates and fats! We're obviously getting less protein and this can lead to greater medical problems. More than half of the patients we treat today (for obesity and metabolic syndrome) have followed a diet that's severely lacking in protein.”
Why is this so crucial that it can determine our wellbeing? For several reasons, experts feel. “Proteins are the building blocks of muscles, bones, hormones, skin cells and tissues,” says Vinita Aran, Senior Diet and Obesity Consultant at Apollo Clinic, Mumbai. “It is responsible for the regeneration of our body cells. That's why it's so important for growing children and lactating women. In adults, it helps heal wounds and recover more rapidly from injury, prevents hair loss and weakness.”
If you have been exercising regularly, but not been losing weight, a lack of protein may be to blame. After you exercise, your muscles are worn out; protein helps re-build the muscle tissue. More muscle in the body helps burn more calories and this also gives you the strength and energy to work out more vigorously in your next session as well. “This is why weight loss is so much faster when there is adequate protein in the diet,” says Aran. “High protein diets are also considered better for better diabetic control and dyslipidemia. But it should be used with caution in people with renal problems.”
Protein for weight loss
Instead of counting calories in our foods as so many diets compel us to do, experts now believe that we should be using our mathematical skills to find out if we're getting enough protein instead! “A normal person requires 1 gm of protein for every kilo of body weight” says Shweta Dewaan. (See table for protein sources for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets) “So if you're sixty kilos, you need 60 gms of protein every day. However, if want to lose weight, then you need to eat more protein (1.5 gms for every kilo). This is because the body tends to burn carbohydrates first, then proteins and finally fats.” When our diet consists of an overdose of carbohydrates and fats, exercising is not as effective in weight loss, since we'll only be burning carbohydrates and won't be exercising long enough to burn fats. “If we increase our intake of protein, our intake of carbs will automatically decrease and we tend to burn proteins quickly and the fats more easily, resulting in weight loss,” says Deewan.
When to have it
Ideally, protein should never be taken when you're starving or very hungry. “This is because the body, in starvation mode, tends to convert protein into carbohydrates, thus defeating the purpose” says Dewaan. “The best way to increase your intake of protein would be to have small frequent meals throughout the day. “As absorption of protein by the body takes 1.5 to 2 hours, it is best to complete your food two hours before bedtime. If you sleep while your body is busy absorbing protein, it will hinder absorption, converting it to carbohydrates again.”
Vegetarian vs non-veg sources
Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians can get their protein requirements from food, but vegetarians may find it difficult to get enough, since the sources of protein in plant foods are limited. In such cases, vegetarians are advised to take protein shakes and supplements like whey powder in addition to protein rich foods that they can eat. “Traditional Indian meals include cereal-pulse combinations that are easily absorbed by the body, like dal-rice, idli sambhar, chole puri. All this improves the overall quality of protein for vegetarian intake,” says Aran.
Calculate your protein needs based on your body weight. Ensure that you take in adequate amounts of protein everyday, both to fuel weight loss and promote growth.

The basic facts on Tariff Revision in the form of Questions and answer:

Q 1 :
“The proposed tariff hike is very high and should not be allowed”.
Ans:
i. The tariff has been marginally increased during the year 2010-11 for certain
categories of consumers i.e Domestic consumers consuming more than 600 units
bi-monthly, Industrial and Commercial consumers  after a gap of seven years
(previous Tariff Order issued w.e.f.16.3.2003). However, the operating cost
(68%), the coal and oil cost (229%) and power purchase cost (235%) have
increased drastically whereas the tariff for the industrial consumers remains
almost the same as that of 2003.
ii. The average cost of supply and the average rate of realization from the year
2005-06 to 2011-12 are detailed below:
year / average cost of supply Rs./unit  /  average rate of realization Rs./unit  / Loss per unit
2005-06   3.52   3.07   (-) 0.45
2006-07   3.55   3.10   (-) 0.45
2007-08   4.00   3.19   (-) 0.81
2008-09   4.86   3.13   (-) 1.73
2009-10   5.09   3.11   (-) 1.98
2010-11   5.55   3.43   (-) 2.12
2011-12   6.12   3.73   (-) 2.39
2012-13   5.98   3.79   (-) 2.19

iii)  From the above, it is obvious that the TANGEDCO is making loss for every
unit of sale.
Iv)  In order to complete the on going power projects and subsequent reduction
in the quantum of power cut and for day to day operation of TANGEDCO,  the
tariff increase proposed is very essential.
v. However, as per Electricity Act, 2003, the Hon’ble TNERC is only vested with
power to categorise and fix the tariff for all the electricity consumers.
Q 2:
The tariff for Agriculture and Hut consumers has been proposed to
increase drastically.  “Is it the first step to introduce tariff for this category and
withdrawal of Free Electricity to this category”?
Ans:
Free supply to Agriculture and Hut consumers will be continued and
electricity charges will be paid by the Government of Tamil Nadu as subsidy.
Q 3:
“The domestic subsidy for the consumption 0-200 units for those who
consume under the bracket 200 units to 500 units bimonthly, has been
withdrawn. Whether the provision of subsidy will be continued?
 Answer:

200-500 units
4.00 0.50 3.50 12.5%
From the above it can be seen that the below poverty line consumers are
provided with more subsidy and subsidy is being decreased for others according
to the income and capacity of the consumer to pay.
The subsidy for high income group consumer who consumes above 500
units alone has been proposed for withdrawal, since they can able to pay their

From this it can be seen that the proposed tariff for Agriculture and Hut
consumers is well below the +
20% of cost of supply. It has been proposed to
reduce the tariff for Commercial   and  LT Industrial categories and increase the
tariff for Agriculture and Hut category in phased manner.

Q6:  How Solar Power Generating Plants are being promoted in Tamil Nadu.
Ans:  Generation Based Incentive scheme (GBI) was announced by MNRE for
Grid Interactive Solar power generation projects during the year 2009.
The power purchase price fixed under the above scheme is Rs.15 per unit.
TANGEDCO will pay Rs. 4.50/- and Rs.10.50/- will be paid by MNRE as GBI to the
company. M/s. Sapphire Industrial Infrastructures Private Limited have
established 5 MW SPV power   plant   at Rettai Pillai Iynarkulam village, New
Kallatthur , Sivagangai  Tk, Sivgangai district. M/s B & G Solar Pvt. Limited is the
first solar power developer to establish 1 MW solar PV power plant at
Nagapattinam. Only one developer from Tamil Nadu (i.e) M/s. CCCL
Infrastructure Ltd has been selected for establishment of 5 MW Solar PV power
plant at Tuticorin District and erection is under process.

Q7: Connected load limit of 10 HP has to be increased to 20 Hp or 25 HP under
LT tariff III A (1) and (2)
Ans: In order to encourage small industries and for economically weaker section,
separate category has been introduced (LT tariff III A (1) and (2) ) with lesser
tariff rate than the other industrial consumers with a load restriction of 10HP. If
they can able to install 20 HP or more, they will be treated as that of Industrial
consumers and they will be charged under higher tariff ( Industrial tariff).
Moreover, as per EA, 2003, the Hon’ble TNERC is only vested with power to
categorize  and fix the tariff  for all the electricity consumers.
Q8: To stop free electricity to all the consumers and to fix the reasonable rate
for all consumers.
Ans: As per the policy direction of GOTN and orders of TNERC, the free
electricity is being extended to certain categories of consumers for which GOTN
is providing tariff subsidy in order to compensate the revenue loss due to the
above policy direction. In the proposed tariff revision petition, the tariff rate for
the hut consumers has been increased from Rs.10/Month/service to
Rs.60/Service/Month (400%) and the rate for the agriculture   consumers has
been increased from Rs.250/HP/annum to Rs.1750/HP/annum (589%) and
power loom consumers tariff hike is proposed from Rs.1.00 / to Rs.4.50/unit. For
any change, policy decision has to be taken by the GOTN.
Q9: Street light  SCs to be maintained by the TANGEDCO instead of local bodies.
Ans: Previously, the street light SCs are maintained by the Board. Now, as per
the GOTN’s direction, the SCs are being effected by the TANGEDCO and
maintained by the local bodies. For any change, policy decision has to be taken
by the GOTN.
Q10: Assessment may be made Monthly.
Ans: Since different slabs are available for monthly and bi-monthly consumption,
the consumption charge will not vary whether it is monyhly or bi-monthly
assessment.  Hence, there is no difference in the cc charges payable by the
consumers.
Q11: There will be a huge revenue leakage due to theft of energy.  What are all
the action taken to curb the theft.
Ans: In Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited, 17
Enforcement Squads and 1 Flying squad/Chennai are functioning under the direct
control of Inspector General of Police/Vigilance to curtail theft of energy.
Activities carried out to curb misuse and theft of Electricity:-

1) Frequent inspections are being carried out in industries availing HT supply.
2) Surprise inspections on suspected Industries are being carried out during
night    hours and on holidays.
3) If the consumption pattern suddenly drops or boosts by 20%, then the
respective service connections are being inspected.
4) Routine inspections are being carried out in HT & LT service connections.
5) Inspections are also being conducted based on petitions and secret
information received.
6) Wide publicity on theft of energy is being carried out to create awareness
on theft/misuse of Electricity among the public through bills pasted on the
notice boards in all the section/sub-division/division offices etc., and
through advertisements in leading news papers.
7) To detect un-accounted energy, studies are being carried out on the HT
feeders.
A target of Rs.200 crores has been fixed for the year 2011-12. To achieve this
target, intensive inspections have been carried out and 19 Nos. of power
thefts in HT service connections and 3015 Nos. of power thefts in LT service
connections have been detected as on 31.08.2011, and a sum of Rs.19.42
crores has been levied as provisional assessment and Rs.2.22 crores has been
collected as compounding charges.
Q12: New power projects are to be completed as early possible.

Ans: All efforts are being taken to complete and commission the ongoing power
projects in time.

Q 13: what are all the actions taken to increase the generating capacity of the
TNEB?

Ans: It is proposed to add additional capacity of 799.5 MW and 3869.5 MW
during the year 2011-12 and 2012-13.

Q 14:  Previously assessment of meter reading was made from 16 th to 30 th
of every

month and payment from 1 st  to 15 th preceding month. Now due to
30 days assessment, it is very difficult to remember and pay the CC charges.

Ans: The 30 days assessment and collection facility has been introduced to
facilitate the consumers by giving 20 days time period for making their payments
so as to reduce the peak days crowd at the collection counters by evenly
distributing due dates for making payment throughout the month.

Q 15: What are the total amount of TANGEDCO borrowing?
Ans: Total borrowing of the Board is Rs.45,000/- Crs.

Q16: How the TANGEDCO  is managing with the huge  deficit?
Ans: Previously, when the loss level of the Board was less, TNEB was managing
by borrowing the fund from the Financial institutions and with State Government
guarantee for some loans. After bifurcation of TNEB into TANGEDCO and
TANTRANSCO, the financial institutions are refusing to provide loans since the
revenue loss becomes huge. Hence, in order to smooth and further operation of
the TANGEDCO, tariff revision is vital.

Q17 : Whether the Segregation of Asset for each function Transmission and
Distribution has been completed?
Ans: The GOTN has issued necessary orders for one more year of time extension
to finalise the assets transfer i.e. 31.10.2012.
Q 18 : Whether Merit of Order has been followed for the purchase of power?
Ans: Considering demand basis, merit Order is being followed to the extent
possible.
Q. 19. it is noted that the service connections are not disconnected for the non
payment of CC charges within the due date in entire state. Due to this, there is a
revenue leakage. Whether, the disconnection is being made for non payment of
CC charges within due date.
Ans: All the field officers are strictly instructed to disconnect the services
immediately for non payment after the due date.
Q 20: TANGEDCO to create awareness among the consumers about Energy
Conservation – Use of Star Labelled appliances, CFL etc.
Ans: DSM Activities:

For adoption of BEE star labeled domestic appliances, BEE is creating
awareness among public. TANGEDCO is also emphasizing the need for use of
the star labeled appliances in all its seminars / training programmes.
