India Worse Than Pak, Bangladesh in Gender Equality

inequality
The new data of Gender Inequality Index (GII) by UN Development Program demonstrates that India's endless gender inequality statistics worsened between 2008 and 2011, and the country now ranks 129 out of 146 countries on the GII, better only to Afghanistan in South Asia.India ranks 134 out of 187 countries on the Human Development Index (HDI), experiencing a 30 percent drop in its human development values. In comparison, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan ranked better at 112, 113 and 115 positions respectively.

The Gender Inequality Index measures female disadvantages in four dimensions such as reproductive health as measured by maternal mortality ratio and adolescent fertility rate, empowerment measured by seats in Parliament, secondary education ratio, and the labour force participation rate.

gender
The nation's decline is witnessed in the fall in female labor force participation rate and worsening adolescent fertility rate. Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh argued that a decline in female labor force participation could indicate improved status for women or better education opportunities. But, the UNDP report demonstrates that the proportion of women with at least secondary education is still just half that of men. The prosperous countries of the world with higher human development have higher female labor force participation.

Further, the report reveals that Sri Lanka has overtaken China with an HDI of 0.691 on human development and, is now within touching distance of the "high human development" category. Sri Lanka accomplishes well, particularly on gender equality indicators; its maternal mortality ratio is the same as Russia's. Speaking to Times of India, Jairam Ramesh said, "Economic growth is a necessary but not sufficient condition for human development. Recent data shows that high growth states like Gujarat have worse human development measures, particularly on malnutrition, than many of the northern states." Jairam praised the role of non-government players, including Anna Hazare, in bringing about a change in sanitation.
female
The 2011 report also states that in 2050 the average HDI could drop by 12 percent in south Asia due to the effects of global warming on agricultural production, scar
city of clean water and pollution. While expressing his view that the "real drivers of unsustainability are the developed countries and worst of all the U.S., which won't even engage with this debate," Jairam said that just as consumption-heavy lifestyles in the industrialized world affected livelihoods in the developing world, "lifestyles within India also affect the livelihoods of the poor within India."

Petrol in India is More Expensive than 98 Other Countries

With average petrol prices touching historic highs, a plenty of Indians are worried over the cost of filling up. The price of petrol is sky rocketing because of the unrest in the Middle East and rising demand, especially from developing countries.

The purchasing power parity (PPP) is a condition between countries where an amount of money has the same purchasing power in different countries. The prices of the goods between the countries would only reflect the exchange rates. In September the price of petrol per liter was highest in India based on PPP and retail prices in countries across the world shows that Indian prices are amongst the highest in the world at current exchange rates.

Indian government is increasing petrol and diesel price so oil companies will benefit and will suffer less loss on the other hand to reduce the price china is decreasing the oil price. Though we are not able to list out all the 98 here is the few other countries to give a vast idea of how cheap petrol is in other countries. Here are the comparisons with other countries fuel consumption with India based on PPP.

India

a
Though the pricing of petrol was freed from government controls in June last year, state-owned oil firms informally take directions from the oil ministry. It remains to be seen if the government will concede to the demand of oil companies just before the winter session of Parliament.

The petrol consumption in India dropped from 13.9 percent in 2009-10 to 10.8 percent in 2010-11 due to rising petrol prices. On the other hand consumption of diesel also declined from 8.8 percent in 2009-10 to 6.6 percent in 2010-11. The petrol price based on PPP is $3.95 and diesel price is $2.46.

China

china
With 1.3 billion people, the People's Republic of China is the world's most populous country and the second largest oil consumer, China has been undergoing a process of industrialization and is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

China's economy since the 1970s has changed from a closed, centrally planned system to a more market-oriented one that plays a major role in the global economy, in 2010 China became the world's largest exporter. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.95 and diesel price is $1.83.

United Kingdom

UK
The UK has the eleventh highest petrol price in Europe. The petrol price increases do have a substantial effect upon consumption a 10 percen
t increase in price could reduce consumption by as much as 7 percent. However, with rising incomes in the UK, and falling costs of purchasing and maintaining vehicles, the demand for fuel and road travel continues to grow. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.85 and diesel price is $1.91.

Brazil

br
Brazil is the 10th largest energy consumer in the world and the largest in South America. At the same time, it is an important oil and gas producer in the region and the world's second largest ethanol fuel producer.

Brazilian government slashed taxes on gasoline and diesel to offset price increases in a move that could help the central bank hit its 2011 inflation target. The so-called Cide tax will fall to $0.05 per liter. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.70 and diesel price is $1.23.

Japan

japan
Earthquakes usually exact a limited toll on the global economy. The earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March 2011 was different, however, as energy markets across the globe felt the impact. Japan is a large player in world energy markets, including petroleum.

In accordance with the two oil crises of the 1970s, Japan made efforts to diversify to other forms of energy resources in order to increase energy security. Japan's domestic oil consumption dropped slightly, while the country's use of oil declined its consumption of nuclear power and LNG rose substantially. The petrol price based on PPP is $1.28 and diesel price is $1.09.
United States

US
The United States is the second largest energy consumer in terms of total use in 2010. The U.S. ranks seventh in energy consumption per-capita after Canada and a number of small countries. Energy consumption has increased at a faster rate than energy production over the last fifty years in the U.S. This difference is now largely met through imports.

U.S. consumes 20.8 million barrels of petroleum a day, of which 9 million barrels is motor gasoline. Transportation has the highest consumption rates, accounting for approximately 68.9 percent of the oil used in the United States. The petrol price based on PPP is $0.76 and diesel price is $0.84.
South Africa

SA
South Africa relies heavily on imported crude oil. Domestic sources and available substitutes alone cannot satisfy the country's current demand, resulting in imported crude oil accounting for over 90 percent of South Africa's requirements.

South Africa consumed approximately 11.3 billion liters of petrol and 9.1 billion liters of diesel recent years, showing a 2.2 percent increase in petrol and a 6.6 percent decrease in diesel from the previous year. During 2008 there was a 4.2 percent decrease in petrol consumption and a 0.1 percent increase in diesel consumption from 2007. The petrol price based on PPP is $0.23 and diesel price is $0.10.

How to choose an LED light bulb

LED light bulbs will eventually be what we use to replace incandescent bulbs – CFLs are a temporary solution to energy-efficient lighting. The reason LEDs have not yet displaced CFLs from the market are twofold: the first generation LED bulbs had a narrow and focused light beam, and the cost of the LED bulbs was too high.

Recent developments in LED technology, however, have been addressing these issues. LEDs have been 'clustered' to provide more light, and mounted within diffuser lenses which spread the light across a wider area. And advancements in manufacturing technology have driven the prices down to a level where LED bulbs are more cost-effective than CFLs or incandescent bulbs. This
trend is continuing, with LED bulbs being designed for more applications while the prices are going down over time.

The 'sticker shock' of the new LEDs remains a deterrent to their widespread acceptance by consumers. The following comparison charts illustrate the value of the latest LED bulbs when compared with CFLs and incandescents for overall efficiency as well as cost-effectiveness.

Notes:
- Cost of electricity will vary. The figures used above are for comparison only, and are not exact.
- The cost per bulb for LEDs may vary. We used the figure of $35.95 (for a 6 watt LED) as an average among lighting retailers. Eartheasy's retail price for a 7 watt LED is $39.95.
-
Estimates of bulb lifespan are projected, since it would take about 6 years of continuous lighting to test. Some manufacturers claim the new LED bulbs will last up to 25 years under normal household use, but this is not proven.
- Bulb breakage and bulb replacement costs have not been factored into this comparison chart. Incandescent bulbs and CFL bulbs are more easily broken than LEDs, which increases their cost of use.
- Most LEDs come with a minimum 2-year guarantee. Any defective LED bulb will usually fail within this time.

Choosing an LED light bulb

Many different models and styles of LED bulbs are emerging in today's marketplace. When choosing a bulb, keep in mind the following:

• Estimate desired wattage - read the package to choose desired illumination level. For example, a 3W LED is equivalent in output to a 45 W incandescent.
• Choose between warm and cool light - new LED bulbs are available in 'cool' white light, which is ideal for task lighting, and 'warm' light commonly used for accent or small area lighting.
• Standard base or pin base - LEDs are available in several types of 'pin' sockets or the standard "screw' (Edison) bases for recessed or track lighting.
Choose between standard and dimmable bulbs - some LED bulbs, such as the LumiSelect series, are now available as dimmable bulbs.

The common styles of LED bulbs available for household use include the following:
ZetaLux LED bulb

Diffused bulbs

In this style LED bulb, clusters of LEDs are covered by a dimpled lens which spreads the light out over a wider area. Available in standard Edison bases, these bulbs have many uses, such as area lighting for rooms, porches, reading lamps, accent lamps, hallways and low-light applications where lights remain on for extended periods.

EvoLux LED bulb

Diffused high power bulbs

Designed for standard household use, these bulbs produce light equivalent to a 100-watt incandescent bulb. The EvoLux (pictured), and ZetaLux (pictured above) are the first UL Listed and FCC approved LED light bulbs for general household illumination.

LED track light bulb
Track Lighting
Available in pin base or standard (Edison) base, LEDs are ideal for track lighting. LEDs do not contribute to heat buildup in a room because no matter how long they remain on, they do not get hot to the touch. Also, because they are 90% more efficient than incandescents, and last 10 times longer than CFLs, the frequency of changing bulbs is greatly reduced.

2. இப்போது On Use multiple Google Accounts in the same web browser என்பதனைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கவும்.
Sign in to another account என்பதனைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கவும். இப்போது புதிய லாக் இன் பக்கம் திறக்கப்படும்.
3. இங்கு புதிய அக்கவுண்ட்டிற்கான தகவல்களைத் தரவேண்டும். தந்த பின்னர், Sign in.
