Roland Garros - The 2012 French Open
PARIS: Rafael Nadal clinched a record seventhFrench Open title on Monday, defeating world number one Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 and shattering the Serb's dream of Grand Slam history.
In a fractious final pushed into a third week for only the second time because of Sunday's rain, the Spanish world number two, playing in his 16th Grand Slam final, also took his Paris record to a staggering 52 wins against just one loss.
Victory, which was achieved on a Djokovic double fault, allowed him to break the tie for six French Opens he shared with Bjorn Borg.
It was the 26-year-old's 11th Grand Slam title, taking him one behind Roy Emerson, three offPete Sampras and five away from the record of 16 held by Roger Federer.
He was left to regret his unforced error count of 53 which undermined his challenge.
After Sunday's suspension, the players, meeting in a fourth successive Grand Slam final, resumed with Nadal leading 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 1-2, but with Djokovic in the ascendancy and serving for a 3-1 lead in the fourth set.
But a forehand error from Djokovic, with the court at his mercy, gave Nadal a break point and the Spaniard seized it when the Serb had been left flat-footed by a net cord which allowed his opponent to push through a winner.
The set remained tight as would be expected with the pair meeting for a 33rd time.
Nadal moved to 5-4 as the umbrellas went up all around Philippe Chatrier Court and the players sat courtside to wait out a passing, heavy shower and complained to tournament referee Stefan Fransen about the slippery conditions.
Djokovic finally buckled when a monster forehand from Nadal set up championship point which he converted when the top seed tamely served up a fourth double fault.
The celebrations were ecstatic as Nadal fell to his knees and consoled Djokovic before the champion climbed into the player's box to embrace his family.
On Sunday, Djokovic had looked down and out at one stage, even picking up a warning for destroying his courtside chair box with his racquet.
After slipping two sets down, he was also a break behind at 0-2 in the third before he reeled off eight games in succession to take the third set -- the first lost by Nadal in this year's event -- and lead 2-0 in the fourth.
The first game of the fourth set had featured a gruelling 44-shot rally.
But Nadal had raged at tournament referee Stefan Fransen for having to keep playing as the court became increasingly treacherous.
As he stormed, Djokovic, who had been two sets to love down to Andreas Seppi in the fourth round, and saved four match points in his quarter-final victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, seized his chance to get back into the match.
The last time a French Open men's final failed to be completed on the last Sunday was 1973 when it was played on the Tuesday with Ilie Nastase beating Niki Pilic.
Monday finishes have become common at the US Open in New York with the last four finals taking place on the extra day while the 2001 Wimbledon final was also completed on a Monday.
Roland Garros will eventually avoid late finishes as a main court with a retractable roof is to be built in 2017
The business of IPv6
Previous version details
The last time a new Internet protocol came into being was in the early 1980's, when the Internet was still a fledgling research network. Thirty years later, the migration to a new standard, IPv6, is now a gargantuan task that involves businesses, online enterprises and consumers alike.
Without new addresses, billions of people will never be able to use new Internet services or access applications and technologies that are in the blueprints of today's businesses and in the minds of tomorrow's entrepreneurs.
With minimal investment, companies can jump ahead of the competition by making their systems IPv6 compatible, according to Amod Malviya, Vice-President-Engineering at Flipkart. Surely, IT managers across India will have their work cut out in making a case to senior level executives.
World IPv6 launch day
His remarks come at a time when major network operators, websites and hardware vendors from around the world pushed everybody to get ready for the switch from the current website address identification method of IPv4, as part of the World IPv6 launch on June 6.
Since June 6, leading websites have had IPv6 permanently enabled, while equipment vendors have started including IPv6 connectivity as part of their default product settings.
Deployments of this degree of undertaking are generally not undertaken lightly, but there is no debate anymore on whether or not the world is running out of IPv4 addresses. IPv4 is made up of a set of numbers that help identify web addresses, helping them communicate with one another.
However, the inherent disadvantage of the IPv4 protocol is the creation of only 4.3 billion possible IP addresses, a total which is soon running out.
According to statistics released by the Internet Society, a non-profit organisation, the last block of IPv4 addresses were assigned from the global supply, leaving no address space to be distributed in the Asia-Pacific region.
To put things into perspective, the new IPv6 system would ensure that for every square centimetre on Earth, there will be over 600 million billion IP addresses. Even though issuing IPv4 addresses might continue over the next two years, companies can put themselves ahead of the pack, by wrinkling out the gnarls in the IPv6 learning curve before it becomes popular.
Being prepared
Despite lack of direct financial gain, the transition to IPv6 compatibility is something “that must be done sooner rather than later as it will carry more risk if a company starts doing it when there are many customers on IPv6,” said Mr. Malviya.
However, a recent IPv6 industry survey indicated that over 20 per cent of businesses felt that “there was no business case” for implementing IPv6 — seeing it as an expense with no accompanying revenue increase. It has become increasingly clear now that even with interim workarounds, the long-term overall cost in not deploying IPv6 now will be more for individual companies looking to grow.
“Companies will end up spending more time trying to cope with the scarcity of IPv4 addresses, whether it is in workarounds or buying networking gear — it's just more expensive if you don't plan for it. In addition to this, businesses which do not initiate transition now will risk accessibility problems of their websites and services when more customers start using IPv6 and companies aren't prepared,” said G. V. Murali, network analyst, Fourth Dimension Technologies.
When mobile devices become IPv6 only, with lack of IPv4 addresses, the use of IPv6 will become a requirement for e-commerce and software solution companies looking to expand and tap into these growth opportunities. How do such businesses go about this?
Low investment
Flipkart, India's largest online books retailer, made the switch to IPv6 four weeks ago. According to Mr. Malviya, the shift was not cost-intensive and ‘a lot easier than most companies generally think'.
“For a company like ours, it took us two weeks with a team of four people. The majority of any expenditure for companies that are looking to switch will come from hardware. Basically, if your networking hardware has been purchased in the last five years, it will be fine as it is most likely IPv6 capable,” said Mr. Malviya.
A lot of the staff training can be done using publicly available resources on the Internet and with regard to software, for more than 90 per cent of websites, no change would be needed, he added.
For bigger companies, taking an inventory of all networking hardware and web serving software older than five years becomes the first step as phased conversion could prove to be the cheapest method. However, ICANN CEO, Rob Beckstrom, has projected the cost of moving an emerging market economy of 50 million people to IPv6 at ‘roughly one billion dollars, a figure which includes “upgrades to infrastructure that most companies and governments would have had to do at some point.”
Ovum, an independent analyst and consultancy firm, released a report last year that advised businesses to take up to 10 years to complete the move, with planning starting from last year. At present, the dual stack approach, where both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are run, is seen as the most effective approach.
ISPs and consumers
While organisations can stave off the eventual change, Internet Service Providers and consumers will have to play their part in adopting the new protocol.
“While some devices may already share an address, if IPv6 isn't implemented, one would have to share a single address with a whole area. Consumers must help create demand by asking for IPv6 support, the next time they choose hardware, software or even their ISPs. Businesses and ISPs have been reluctant to provide IPv6 assistance as they see no customer demand for it,” said Mr. Murali. Businesses that refuse to change, citing cost factors, run the risk of running into a number of challenges including increased costs, crippled website functionality and cordoning growth opportunities in a growing market like India, he added.
Companies, ISPs and netizens must adopt IPv6 to enable continued growth of the Internet, avoid the inevitable chaos caused by the IPv4 shortage and ensure that business is undisrupted.
With a capacity of over 340 trillion, trillion, trillion addresses, IPv6 will allow us to continue, for all practical purposes, indefinitely.

Movie review
Story: Though he loves Revathy ( Aadhmiya), his neighbour and childhood pal, Kannan (Sivakarthikeyan) lies to his friends that she too is in love with him.
So, when Revathy's family, respected - and feared - in the village, arranges her wedding with another, his friends decide to get the lovers together at all costs and send an inebriated and unconscious Kannan and a drugged Revathy off to Kerala in the hope that her family will accept the couple once they are married. How does their plan play out?
Movie Review: The plot of Manam Kothi Parvai is pretty much on the lines of the by-now familiar rural romance formula (a happy-go-lucky guy head over heels in love with a girl whose family wouldn't hesitate to murder the guy if it comes to know of his affair) but director Ezhil (of Thullatha Manamum Thullum fame) attempts to offer some subtle variations - he keeps you guessing on the girl's thoughts on the romance well into the second half and then, rather than treat it as a serious romance, he tries to inject humour into the scenes.
But there is quite a difference between merely trying and actually making your treatment succeed. Ezhil seems to have tried to do a Kalavani here but those familiar with his repertoire will realize he is more comfortable with melodrama. So, the lightness of touch the film requires is missing and what you end up with is a bunch of characters who talk non-stop trying to be funny but fail more often than not.
And, there is no better example than the leading man himself. Even on the small screen,Sivakarthikeyan is a motor-mouth but the short duration of the shows makes his lines appear wittier than they actually are. While he managed better in his earlier big screen ventures like Marina and 3, in which his characters weren't the lead, here, with an underwritten character, he comes across as someone trying hard to be funny. While Ezhil might have intentionally wanted to make Kannan an everyday guy, he ends up creating a hero who seems spineless - leave alone taking on his adversaries, Kannan cannot even seem to talk or act on his behalf.
Similarly, while Ezhil does a good job of not immediately revealing Revathy's actual feelings for Kannan, he fumbles when she confesses her love for him. The scene is executed awkwardly with the character verbosely explaining her decision to avoid his advances that it fails to be romantic. And, while debutant Aadmiya is pretty and homely to look at and fits the part well, she isn't convincing in conveying her character's internal dilemma.
As for the supporting characters who play the friends, everyone has a couple of misses for every funny line that hits the mark. While their antics even border on the irritating side during the first half, they end up being actually funny once they are caught by Revathy's family. But they cannot makeup for the largely listless and uneven screenplay.

Samsung Galaxy S III gets the teardown treatment by iFixit and Chipworks
Well, it was only going to be a matter of time before the inquisitive minds at iFixit or Chipworks got their hands on the new Galaxy S III and skillfully take it apart bit by bit and so finally they have.
This has lead to some rather interesting discoveries as mentioned below.
- The battery has a built-in NFC chip, just like the one on the Galaxy Nexus. If you are getting a replacement, make sure it is the same model with the NFC chip built-in.
- The audio processor on the Galaxy S III is a Wolfson WM1811, unlike the infamous Yamaha YMU823 on the Galaxy S II and the popular Wolfson WM8994 on the Galaxy S.
- The front protective glass has been fused to the display, which can lead to significant costs in case it cracks.
- The 8 megapixel camera on the back uses basically the same Sony BSI sensor used on the iPhone 4S. As such, any difference in image quality would be due to the use of different lens system and differently tuned image processing. You can use our Photo Comparison Tool to compare the image quality between the two smartphones.
That’s it for now. This teardown was performed by Chipworks and we may get some more details and pictures when iFixit does one of their own. You can find some more information from the source link below.
Missed tryst with transiting Venus
On June 6, Indians will wake up to a unique astronomical phenomenon: the Transit of Venus. The second planet of our solar system will be seen as a tiny black dot traversing the face of the sun between sunrise and 10.30 a.m. IST
Venus is always visible from Earth — it appears either before sunrise (the morning star) or right after sunset (the evening star). But during transits, Venus, Earth and the sun line up in space, causing Venus to appear as a black dot against the disc of the sun.
Transits of Venus are truly rare. A pair of such events occurs every 105.5 or 121.5 years. The last event occurred in June 2004, and the next will occur 105 years from now, in December 2117.
In the 18th century, one such event almost helped India create history. In March 1760, French astronomer, Guillaume Joseph Hyacinthe Jean-Baptiste Le Gentil de la Galaisière or simply Guillaume Le Gentil set sail for Pondicherry on a unique mission: to study the Venus transit of June 6, 1761.
He was part of an international collaborative, headed by Russian astronomer Mikhail Lomonosov, whose ultimate goal was to measure the distance between Earth and the sun. Astronomers of the time thought that this would, in turn, help them gauge the size of the solar system.
Lomonosov and Le Gentil's ambitions rested on the shoulders of several giants. In 1631, Johannes Kepler discovered the shape of the solar system, and predicted that all planets revolved around the sun in the same geometric plane. Using Kepler's calculations, British astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks recorded a Venus transit for the first time in 1639.
Then in the early 18th century, Edmond Halley, discoverer of the famous Halley's Comet, identified that a transit presented the unique opportunity to measure the distance between Earth and the sun.
But Halley died before Venus transited in 1761. That transit was best seen across Asia, and Le Gentil hoped to make his historical contribution from Pondicherry, then a French territory.
AT SEA
But sadly for Le Gentil, Europe was at war between 1756 and 1763. Collectively called the Seven Years' War, these conflicts between the British and the bourbons of France and Spain; and the Prussians and Austrians, affected not just Europe, but also its colonies. In India, conflicts broke out around the French colonies in Chandranagore in West Bengal, and Pondicherry, in the south.
The war in the south is better known as the Third Carnatic War. Irish Commander Sir Eyre Coote took charge of the British forces in Madras, and led his army to victory in the Battle of Wandiwash in January 1760. The French army under Comte de Lally retreated to Pondicherry. Sir Coote besieged the settlement, and refused to relent until de Lally surrendered in January 1761, a few months before the transit.
Le Gentil was already well on his way to India when Pondicherry fell, and in spite of his many attempts to make it to the Coromandel coast, he was forced to retreat to Mauritius. On June 6, 1761, when Venus transited, Le Gentil was at sea, and his rocking vessel confounded his observations though the skies were clear. Incidentally, Lomonosov's observations were marred by optical illusions and the astronomical unit remained elusive.
MISSED AGAIN
But Venus was set to transit again in June 1769, and Le Gentil waited in Madagascar for the war to come to an end. In 1763, the British and the French signed the treaty of Paris, and the French regained control of Pondicherry. Le Gentil arrived at Pondicherry in 1768, and waited eagerly for the event. But as his misfortune would have it, cloudy skies blanketed the southern coast of India, destroying any chance of timing the entire event.
In 1769, however, Captain James Cook of Britain successfully moored in Tahiti to record the event from start to finish. His observations helped European astronomers calculate the astronomical unit, and subsequently the size of the entire solar system. The more advanced techniques of today, like radar, show that their calculations were a little off: the solar system is 1.008 times smaller than their assumptions. But Cook's contributions, which could have been Le Gentil's, have a unique place in astronomical history.
Cook went on to discover Australia and New Zealand and was a much-celebrated hero in Britain. By a strange turn of destiny, William Petrie, a civil servant for the East India Company, brought one of Cook's clocks to the Madras Observatory in the late 18th century. This instrument which helped create history now stands — and still ticks — at the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory.

An introduction to BSNL tablets
BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) on collaboration with Noida-based company Pantel Technologies, has launched three tablets which includes one 7-inch screen tablet with resistive screen and it runs on Android 2.3 operating system, while the second comes with 7-inch screen and the third tablet comes with an 8-inch screen, both of which are capacitive but with a higher price.
These tablets are designed keeping in mind the students need, the tablet come with a promotional offer of 3 month free data download. BSNL is also giving 2G SIM along with all the tablets.Developed by the Noida based company – Pantel technologies. The tablet will be sold at data plans from BSNL at reduced cost. The cost of these tablet will be Rs 3250, Rs 10,999 and Rs 13,500.
Three tablets are:
- Penta TPAD IS701R
- Penta TPAD WS704C
- Penta TPAD WS804C
The cheapest of all three is Penta T-pad IS 701R which will cost Rs 3250, giving a tough competition to Aakash which is priced at just Rs 2500. However, T-pad has better specifications of the tablet, than the DataWind low cost tablet Aakash. We think that this BSNL tablet will appeal a lot students as the technical specification out-weight both the Aakash tablets.
Penta T-Pad IS 701R is a tablet with Wi-Fi only (no SIM card slot, but you can attach 2G/3G USB modem via the USB port) and Android 2.3 (Ginger Bread) operating system. It has a 1 GHz processor (ARM11 IMAP210) combined with 256 MB of DDR2 RAM. This entry level tablet from Pantel is 3-times as fast than the first Aakash and 300MHz faster than Aakash2 (Ubislate7), theoretically.
The tablet also offers HDMI port through which it can be connected to an HDTV. Its 7-inch resistive touchscreen comes with a 800×600 resolution (which looks great on 7-inch screens) and 16:9 ratio wide-screen display.
The tablet also comes with gravity sensor (G-sensor) which can orient the display in portrait and landscape when turned and also aids in motion gaming, something that was missing in Aakash.
Penta T-pad IS 701R has a battery rating of 3000mAh, which is expected to last for about 5-5:30 hours of video watching, which is certainly not bad considering laptops too give that much of battery life.
The internal memory is 2GB, but it can be extended via microSD cards upto 32GB.
It also has a front-facing 0.3MP camera for video chat and one standard USB port to accommodate pen-drives or other USB devices along with support for USB modems/net dongle, so that you can surf the internet, talk on Skype, watch YouTube videos, read e-books and open PDF files too.
The tablet is up for pre-orders now. Pre-book yours.

When Vinay K.C. needs a gizmo, he just creates one!
Vinay K.C., a 14-year-old boy from Bagalkot in North Karnataka, no longer keeps track of how many electronic toys he has created. “I have lost count of it. I dismantle the object I create and go for a new one. I do not ask my parents to buy me toys,” he says.
Vinay, a science enthusiast, was one of the participants in the “Hobby Projects” section of “Srishti”, a State-level project exhibition competition organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), here recently. He had brought “Humanoid”, a little gizmo that acts according to the commands given on a laptop by Vinay.
Creative
Vinay is passionate about creating objects using artificial intelligence, says Jayashree Ganthimath, Assistant Professor in an engineering college in Bagalkot and Vinay's mother. An instance of his interest in creating electronic toys is one gizmo that he has developed that feed their pet dog on time.
“When he was in Std V, he said he wished he had a pet dog. As we both (parents) work, we told him we would not be able to provide food for the dog on time. In just a few days, he created an object that provided food on time. We had to accept his wish and get a pet dog,” said Ms. Ganthimath.
In creating the toys, Vinay has recycled objects such as used saline bottles and syringes, which he sourced from his sister, who is studying medicine. “He has moved on to creating mechanisms such as one that showers flower petals when a person opens the door (this could be used for birthdays),” she said. His passion for creating such gizmos made her and his father, K. Chandrashekar, a Physics professor in the same engineering college, shift him from a Kannada medium school to an English Medium school in Bagalkot, Ms. Ganthimath said.
Self-taught
Vinay uses integrated circuits (ICs), capacitors, and microcontrollers for creating objects. “I browse through the Internet and get all information about its (objects') working. So far I have not faced difficulty in understanding information available on the Internet,” he said.
Vinay said he has not thought of participating in any science competition for schoolchildren. “I want to become a scientist and focus on science,” he said.

The money will be distributed in these proportions until 2017, after which the share of IPL will be 50%, franchisees 45% and prize money 5%.
