An introduction to BSNL tablets

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) on collaboration with Noida-based company Pantel Technologies, has launched three tablets which  includes one 7-inch screen tablet with resistive screen and it runs on Android 2.3 operating system, while the second comes with 7-inch screen and the third tablet comes with an 8-inch screen, both of which are capacitive but with a higher price.

These tablets are designed keeping in mind the students need, the tablet come with a promotional offer of 3 month free data download. BSNL is also giving 2G SIM along with all the tablets.Developed by the Noida based company – Pantel technologies. The tablet will be sold at data plans from BSNL at reduced cost. The cost of these tablet will be Rs 3250, Rs 10,999 and Rs 13,500.

Three tablets are:

• Penta TPAD IS701R
• Penta TPAD WS704C
• Penta TPAD WS804C

The cheapest of all three  is Penta T-pad IS 701R  which will cost  Rs 3250, giving a tough competition to Aakash which is priced at just Rs 2500. However, T-pad has better specifications of the tablet, than the DataWind low cost tablet Aakash. We think that this BSNL tablet will appeal a lot students as the technical specification out-weight both the Aakash tablets.

Penta T-Pad IS 701R is a tablet with Wi-Fi only (no SIM card slot, but you can attach 2G/3G USB modem via the USB port) and Android 2.3 (Ginger Bread) operating system. It has a 1 GHz processor (ARM11 IMAP210) combined with 256 MB of DDR2 RAM. This entry level tablet from Pantel is 3-times as fast than the first Aakash and 300MHz faster than Aakash2 (Ubislate7), theoretically.

The tablet also offers HDMI port through which it can be connected to an HDTV. Its 7-inch resistive touchscreen comes with a 800×600 resolution (which looks great on 7-inch screens) and 16:9 ratio wide-screen display.

The tablet also comes with gravity sensor (G-sensor) which can orient the display in portrait and landscape when turned and also aids in motion gaming, something that was missing in Aakash.

Penta T-pad IS 701R has a battery rating of 3000mAh, which is expected to last for about 5-5:30 hours of video watching, which is certainly not bad considering laptops too give that much of battery life.

The internal memory is 2GB, but it can be extended via microSD cards upto 32GB.

It also has a front-facing 0.3MP camera for video chat and one standard USB port to accommodate pen-drives or other USB devices along with support for USB modems/net dongle, so that you can surf the internet, talk on Skype, watch YouTube videos, read e-books and open PDF files too.

Gadget guru

When Vinay K.C. needs a gizmo, he just creates one!

Vinay K.C., a 14-year-old boy from Bagalkot in North Karnataka, no longer keeps track of how many electronic toys he has created. “I have lost count of it. I dismantle the object I create and go for a new one. I do not ask my parents to buy me toys,” he says.

Vinay, a science enthusiast, was one of the participants in the “Hobby Projects” section of “Srishti”, a State-level project exhibition competition organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), here recently. He had brought “Humanoid”, a little gizmo that acts according to the commands given on a laptop by Vinay.

Creative

Vinay is passionate about creating objects using artificial intelligence, says Jayashree Ganthimath, Assistant Professor in an engineering college in Bagalkot and Vinay's mother. An instance of his interest in creating electronic toys is one gizmo that he has developed that feed their pet dog on time.

“When he was in Std V, he said he wished he had a pet dog. As we both (parents) work, we told him we would not be able to provide food for the dog on time. In just a few days, he created an object that provided food on time. We had to accept his wish and get a pet dog,” said Ms. Ganthimath.

In creating the toys, Vinay has recycled objects such as used saline bottles and syringes, which he sourced from his sister, who is studying medicine. “He has moved on to creating mechanisms such as one that showers flower petals when a person opens the door (this could be used for birthdays),” she said. His passion for creating such gizmos made her and his father, K. Chandrashekar, a Physics professor in the same engineering college, shift him from a Kannada medium school to an English Medium school in Bagalkot, Ms. Ganthimath said.

Self-taught

Vinay uses integrated circuits (ICs), capacitors, and microcontrollers for creating objects. “I browse through the Internet and get all information about its (objects') working. So far I have not faced difficulty in understanding information available on the Internet,” he said.

Vinay said he has not thought of participating in any science competition for schoolchildren. “I want to become a scientist and focus on science,” he said.

• இது எவ்வளவு தவறானது என்பதை இற்றைவரை அவள் புரிந்திருக்கவில்லை.

நீரிழிவு என்பது கால ஓட்டத்துடன் தீவிரமாகும் ஒரு நோய். காலம் செல்லச் செல்ல நோய் அதிகரிக்கும். அத்துடன் நோய் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் இல்லையேல் பல்வேறுவிதமான பாதிப்புகளை ஏற்படுத்தும்.

• இருதயம், சிறுநீரகம், நரம்புகள், என ஒவ்வொறு உறுப்புகளிலும் பாதிப்புகள் ஏற்படும்.

அடிப்படைத் தகவல்கள்

சிறுநீரக நோய் பற்றிய சில அடிப்படைத் தகவல்களை அறிந்திருப்பது அவசியம்.

•  சிறுநீரக நோய் ஆரம்ப நிலையில் எந்தவித வெளிப்படையான அறிகுறிகளையும் காட்டாது.
• காலம் செல்லச் செல்ல சிறுநீரக நோய் தீவிரமாகிக் கொண்டு போகும். இறுதியில் அது செயலிழக்கும் kidney failure நிலை ஏற்படும். சிறுநீரக செயலிழப்பு மிகத் தீவிரமான நிலை என்பதை சொல்லித் தெரிய வேண்டியதில்லை. உடலில் சேரும் கழிவுப்பொட்களை செயற்கையாகச் சுத்தம் (dialysis) செய்யும் சிகிச்சையை தொடர்ந்து செய்ய நேரிடும். அல்லது சிறுநீரக மாற்று சத்திரசிகிச்சை (Kidney Transplant) செய்ய நேரும். இவை மிகுந்த தொல்லையானதும் பாரிய பொருட் செலவு மிக்கனவுமாகும்.
• ஆயினும் சிறுநீரகப் பாதிப்பு இருப்பதை ஆரம்பத்திலேயே கண்டறிந்தால் அதைக் சிகிச்சைகள் மூலம் குணமாக்க முடியும். அல்லது அது தீவிரமடைவதைத் தடுக்க முடியும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை தரும் செய்தியாகும். இச் சிகிச்சைகள் சிறுநீரகப் பாதிப்பை மட்டுமின்றி இருதயத்திற்கு ஏற்படக் கூடிய பாதிப்புகளிலிருந்தும் பாதுகாக்க உதவும். ஆயினும் எவ்வளவு விரைவில் பாதிப்பைக் கண்டறிகிறீர்கள் என்பதில்தான் சிகிச்சையின் வெற்றி தங்கியுள்ளது என்பதை மறக்க வேண்டாம்.

சிறுநீரக நோய்களுக்கான வேறு முக்கிய காரணிகளும் உள்ளன. அவை உள்ளவர்களும் சிறுநீரகத்திற்கான பரிசோதனைகளை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

• இருதய நோயுள்ளவர்கள்
• தமது நெருங்கிய சொந்தங்களில் சிறுநீரக நோயுள்ளவர்கள்.

எத்தகைய பரிசோதனைகள்

1.    இரத்தப் பரிசோதனை. சிறுநீரகத்தின் வடிகட்டும் ஆற்றலைக் கண்டறியும்(Glomerular filtration rate- GFR) பரிசோதனை செய்ய வேண்டும். சிறுநீரகத்தின தொழிற்பாடானது வடிகட்டுதல் ஆகும். மேலதிக நீரையும், குருதியில் சேர்ந்த கழிவுப் பொருட்களையும் அகற்றும். இச் செயற்பாடு எந்தளவு செயற்படுகிறது என்பதைக் காட்டும் பரிசோதனை இது.

2.    சிறுநீரகப் பரிசோதனை. சிறுநீரில் அல்பியுமின் என்ற புரதம் வெளியேறுவது சிறுநீரக நோயில் ஏற்படும். சாதாரண சிறுநீர்ப் பரிசோதனையில் (Urine Full report- UFR) இதனைக் கண்டறிய முடியும்.

ஆயினும் ஆரம்ப நிலையில் மிகக் குறைந்தளவு புரதம் வெளியேறுவதை விசேட நுண்ணிய பரிசோதனைகள் மூலம் கண்டறியலாம். இதனை அறிய (Urine for Microalbumin) என்ற பரிசோதனை செய்ய வேண்டும்.

நீங்கள் செய்ய வேண்டியவை எவை?

நீரிழிவையும் இரத்த அழுத்தத்தையும் அதிகரிக்க விடாது கட்டுப்பாட்டிற்கள் வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும்.

• இரத்த சீனியின் அளவு Fasting blood Sugar எனில் 110 ற்குள் இருக்க வேண்டும். மூன்று மாதங்களுக்கு ஒரு முறை செய்யப்படும் பரிசோதனை HbA1C எனில் 7ற்குள் கட்டுப்படுத்த வேணடும்.
• இரத்த அழுத்தத்தை 130/80 ற்குள் வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும்.
• உணவில் உப்பின அளவைக் குறைக்க வேண்டும்.
• தேவையான இரத்த சிறுநீர்ப் பரிசோதனைகளை மருத்துவர் ஆலோசனையும் காலந்தவறாது செய்ய வேண்டும்.
• சிபார்சு செய்யப்பட்ட மருந்துகளைத் தவறாது குறிப்பிட்ட நேரங்களில் உட்கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

மேற் கூறிய பெண்ணின் நீரிழிவு கட்டுப்பாடின்றி மோசமாக இருந்தது. சிறுநீரில் நுண்ணிய அளவில் புரதம் (Microalbumin) வெளியேற ஆரம்பித்திருந்தது.

ஆயினும் அவளது சிறுநீரகம்  இன்னமும் மோசமான நிலையான செயலிழப்பு நிலையை அடையவில்லை. நம்பிக்கையூட்டி சிகிச்சையில் தேவையான பல மாற்றங்களை உடனடியாகவே ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது.

Prize money

The IPL offers a total 25 crore in prize money.^[29]

• Champion: 10 crore
• Runner-up: 7.5 crore
• Third place: 3.75 crore
• Fourth place: 3.75 crore
• No prize money for remaining teams

Television rights and sponsorships

he IPL is predicted to bring the BCCI income of approximately US$1.6 billion, over a period of five to ten years. All of these revenues are directed to a central pool, 40% of which will go to IPL itself, 54% to franchisees and 6% as prize money. The money will be distributed in these proportions until 2017, after which the share of IPL will be 50%, franchisees 45% and prize money 5%. The IPL signed up Kingfisher Airlines as the official umpire partner for the series in a 106 crore (US$21.15 million) (approximately £15 million) deal. This deal sees the Kingfisher Airlines brand on all umpires' uniforms and also on the giant screens during third umpire decisions

Revenue and Profits

The UK-based brand consultancy, Brand Finance, has valued the IPL at $4.13 billion (Rs 18,998 crore) in 2010.^[43] It was valued at US$2.01 billion in 2009 by the same consultancy.^[44]

There are disputed figures for the profitability of the teams. One analyst said that four teams out of the eight made a profit in 2009.^[45] While The Times said that all but Kings XI Punjab made a profit.^[46]

In 2010, the IPL expects to have 80 official merchandising deals. It has signed a deal with Swiss watchmaker Bandelier to make official watches for the IPL.^[47]

According to a recent study by a UK-based brand valuation consultancy, the brand value of the IPL has more than doubled to USD 4.13 billion (over Rs 18,000 crore) from USD 2.01 billion in 2009.^[48]

The franchises have been a part of this growth. The Chennai Super Kings have a brand value of USD 79.13 million which places them at the top of the table. The MI franchise has moved up the ladder with a valuation of USD 63.58 million. Kolkata Knight Riders co-owned by Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan comes in third with a valuation of USD 57.59 million and the Rajasthan Royals, co-owned by Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty comes in last with USD 33.78 million. The Royal Challengers Bangalore, owned by Vijay Mallya, is ranked fourth with a valuation of USD 55.13 million and is followed by the, Delhi Daredevils (USD 40.85 million) and Kings XI Punjab ( USD 35.75 million). The Deccan Chargers are at the sixth with a valuation of USD 38.76 million.^[8]

Auction

The players auction for the 2012 Indian Premier League (fifth season) was held on 4 February 2012 in Bangalore.^[11] Each player in the auction pool had a base price under which franchise owners cannot bid. Players were allowed to set their base price between $20,000 to $400,000.

IPL authority has increased the number of players in each squad to 33 from the previous limit of 30 and also has increased the salary cap by $2 million.^[11] According to the new IPL rule each team can have 33 players and a maximum of 11 overseas players in their squad and they can spend up to $2 million at auction.

The players of Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) were included in the players auction.^[12] The franchise of Kochi IPL team was terminated by BCCI in September, 2011.

The proceedings of the IPL 2012 Players Auction was telecasted live by SET Max, the official broadcaster of IPL.^[13]
